Do social service for 3 days, Hyderabad court tells 35 drunken drivers

Court also awarded jail terms to four persons with an imprisonment ranging from 2-5 days

Hyderabad: Two city courts on Tuesday asked 35motorists, who were charged with drunken driving, to do social service for three hours daily for three days and sentenced 21 others to imprisonment till rising of the courts for the same offence.

The Third and Fourth Metropolitan Magistrate Courts at Erramanzil here also awarded jail terms to four persons with an imprisonment ranging from two to five days.

Besides, the courts also imposed fines up to Rs 2,000 on all the sixty violators, an official release from Hyderabad Police said.

Cases were booked against the accused who were found riding two-wheelers and driving three-wheelers, four-wheelers and other vehicles in drunken state, it said.

"City Police have registered a total of 9,096 drunken driving cases, of which 1,188 drunken motorists have been imprisoned till date," the release added.

Cases are booked against drunken drivers under section 185 of the Motor Vehicles Act, according to which a person is considered as being intoxicated if his blood alcohol content is more than 30 mg per 100 ml blood.
