GHMC staffer loses her job, attempts suicide at home

Hyderabad: A Greater Hyderabad Muncipal Corporation (GHMC) employee attempted suicide by consuming pills on Monday.

The woman who is five months pregnant woman became depressed after she lost her job for participating in the GHMC strike.

Police said the victim, Sampoorna, 28, a resident of Jeedimetla was working as a contract employee of GHMC. She actively participated in the recent GHMC strike. But she was not called for work after the strike  ended. Her husband is a private sector employee in Balanagar.

“She was depressed after losing her job. She is said to have requested the officials to provide her some job, but there was no response,” police said.

She consumed sleeping pills and attempted suicide on Monday at her house. Her husband and neighbours rushed her to hospital. She is recovering now.
