Telangana Rashtra Samithi beckons civic body leaders
Ruling party eyes leaders from Opposition parties in various districts
Hyderabad: After legislators, TRS is wooing Opposition representatives of local bodies in various districts. Its target now is municipal chairpersons, councillors, ZPTCs, MPTCs, Sarpanchas and others.
After wooing several local Telugu Desam and Congress leaders in Kodangal Assembly constituency represented by Telugu Desam MLA, A. Revanth Reddy and in Wanaparthy, both in Mahbubnagar district, TRS is in talks with elected representatives in Shadnagar, Kalwakurthy, and Mahbubnagar it is reliably learnt.
Sources said that party leaders in Medak, Adilabad, Nizamabad, Warangal, Karimnagar, Ranga Reddy, and Nalgonda are also eyeing local Opposition representatives.
Irrigation minister T. Harish Rao openly invited Telugu Desam and Congress leaders in various districts to join the TRS in the making of Bangaru Telangana and has been holding talks with those who have responded.
“What is the point in hanging around in a party which is opposed to development of Telangana. You will have no future unless you join TRS,” he told TD leaders who planned to join TRS.
While there has been a temporary break in the Opposition legislators joining in view of mounting pressure on commercial taxes minister T. Srinivas Yadav to quit the ministry and Speaker to accept his resignation, joining by local body leaders has picked up over the past one month. And the standard reason is development of their area.
“We have joined the TRS since there are several problems facing the town including drinking water, bad roads among others. Our priority is development and we expect the same under the leadership of the CM,” Mr Ramesh Goud, a TD leader and municipal chairman, Wanaparthy said.
Though there has been some resentment from local TRS leaders in many districts, the TRS leadership is trying to pacify them.
According to party sources, the TRS government was planning to build strong leadership and cadre in all the districts before local bodies, municipal corporation, MLC and other elections so that the party can implement its programmes and policies effectively.
