Andhra Pradesh to sell onion at Rs 20/kg at farmers market

Presently, the government will distribute onions through 80 Rythu Bazars

According to officials, the wholesale price of onion at Azadpur Mandi on August 19 was recorded in the range of Rs 40-53

Vijayawada: Consumers in Andhra Pradesh will get onion at Rs 20 per kg at all Rythu Bazars (farmers market) across the state from on July 31, agriculture minister P Pulla Rao said. Addressing reporters here, Rao said onion prices suddenly increased.

"But Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu purchased onions from Maharashtra and other states and made arrangements to give onions at the lowest rate to the consumers," he said.

Presently, we (the govt) will distribute onions through 80 Rythu Bazars and later 40 additional Rythu Bazars will be arranged for sake of consumers, he added. Meanwhile, the minister also inaugurated an onion counter at Rythu Bazar here.
