Jyothirgamay said she liked Kerala because people here were innocent and good

Thiruvananthapuram: Tiffany Brar, who runs Jyothirgamaya a mobile blind school here said she derived strength and determination from her handicap. The 25-year-old youth who is blind by birth, was speaking at function organised by Vocational Rehabilitation Centre for Handicapped to mark donation of cut model for automobile section sponsored by SBT here on Wednesday.

“I lost my mother when I was in eighth standard. At that time all seemed lost for me. We all know how important is mother to a girl child.  But I decided not to give up. I fought,” she added.

The founder of the Jyothirgamay said she liked Kerala because people here were innocent and good. However she felt there was subtle discrimination against differently abled at times. “A couple of days ago an auto driver asked me why I couldn’t get married and sit at home because of my handicap. I told him not to lecture me on what I need to do,”  she said.
