Two Indians to be honoured with 2015 Ramon Magsaysay Award
The award will be given on August 31 in Manila
New Delhi: Two Indians, including Sanjiv Chaturvedi, the former chief vigilance officer of AIIMS who was also a whistle-blower on corruption at the country’s premier institute, were awarded the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for 2015. The other winner is Anshu Gupta, founder of NGO Goonj, who has been instrumental in social work.
Three others selected for the award are Kommaly Chanthavong from Laos, Ligaya Fernando-Amilbangsa from the Philippines, and Kyaw Thu from Myanmar, the board of trustees of the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation (RMAF) announced. The award will be given on August 31 in Manila.
Mr Chaturvedi, a 2002-batch Indian Forest Service officer, announced he would donate the award money for the treatment of poor patients at AIIMS, where he serves as deputy secretary. Mr Chaturvedi, who has been vocal about corruption at AIIMS, said after receiving the award that he is disappointed with the functioning of the Prime Minister’s Office since his removal as CVO last August.
