The rupee declined by 12 paise to 64.10 against the US dollar in early trade on Friday, extending weakness for the second day due to appreciation of the  American currency overseas.  Besides, month-end demand for the American currency from  importers weighed on the rupee but a higher opening in the  domestic equity market capped the losses, forex dealers said.

The rupee had shed 13 paise to close at 64.04 against the  US currency in the previous session.  Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex surged by 260.17 points or 0.93 per cent at 27,965.52 in early trade today.
