Uber driver arrested in Delhi after US tourist alleges molestation
The woman was allegedly molested in Chittaranjan Park area on July 24
New Delhi: Delhi Police has arrested the taxi driver of a private firm who has been accused of molesting a 20-year-old US tourist in Chittaranjan Park area here last week.
The accused Devraj Chauvan (30) was arrested last night from his house in Laxmibai Nagar, a senior police officer said on Friday.
The girl, who was on a tour of India, has left for the US, the officer said.
An FIR was lodged against the accused at the Chittaranjan Park Police Station yesterday.
Earlier, a case was registered at Tophkhana Police Station in Ahmednagar in Maharashtra against the accused on July 28.
The girl had reportedly come to Delhi along with other tourists and had booked the taxi online. She was staying in a hotel in Chittaranjan Park area, said a senior Delhi Police officer.
"After the incident she went to Ahmednagar to visit a spiritual centre. Initially, she could not speak about the incident due to fear but after coming to Ahmednagar, she shared the incident with her colleagues," police said.
Later, she met the Ahmednagar SP and narrated the incident after which the case was filed against the driver.
