KOTTAYAM: The MG University has  not provided the advance funds to the library to buy  journals and magazines for research  in the new academic year.

The university has Rs 79-lakh budget provisions to buy scientific and academic journals. The advance amount should have reached the library by  March to order the journals.

“Though some publications are giving the journals on the basis of trust,  many refuse to do so due to the lack of the advance amount.  If the money is  not  ratified early,  the fund may lapse,” a library staffer  told DC.

Sources said the library had submitted the application in March. This should be ratified by the university syndicate and it may take a few more months to complete the process.

The funds for 2014- 15 had lapsed due to similar delay. “The absence of the journals is affecting the research work of the students,” said K.M. Anwar, a research scholar of Gandhian studies at the university. The university subscribes to  over 230 journals, including  80 international, and other publications.
