Telangana Joint Action Committee plans big agitation
Asks Centre to divide HC, 90 other undertakings
Hyderabad: The steering committee of the Telangana Joint Action Committee, an ally of the TRS during the statehood movement, has demanded that the Centre take immediate steps for bifurcation of the High Court besides 90 public undertakings.
The TJAC, which met under the chairmanship of Prof. Kodandaram, said that as per constitutional norms, every state should have its own High Court. The TJAC said there should be no further delay in bifurcation of the court for Telangana.
“They cannot drag the issue for such a long period. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana should have separate High Courts. Besides, 90-odd public undertakings including corporations and other government organisations are also yet to be divided. This has to be done on priority,” Prof. Kodandaram told Deccan Chronicle.
TJAC will hold a meeting of irrigation experts on August 8 to study utilisation of Godavari waters by the state. It also plans to take up an agitation for bifurcation of the High Court and other institutions.
To a question, he said a TJAC team will visit Osmania General Hospital on Monday, which has been lined up by the government for demolition for the construction of new buildings despite objections from heritage activists.
Referring to the drought-like conditions prevailing in the state due to the erratic monsoon, he said the government should take immediate steps to tide over the crisis and help farmers.
He wanted the government to take steps to stop the continuing suicides by farmers and also ensure speedy relief for the relatives of those who had ended their lives.
