Visakhapatnam: In view of the major event, International Fleet Review (IFR), scheduled in February, next year, in Vizag city, the AP tourism department, in association with CII and few other organisations, has begun an exercise to put Vizag on the international tourism radar by involving various organisations to promote the explored and unexplored tourist destinations in and around Vizag city through innovative promotional methods.
Principal secretary of Tourism and managing director of APTDC Neerabh Kumar Prasad said Vizag was blessed with beautiful beaches, Buddhist heritage sites, coastal red sand dunes, popularly known as Erramatti Dibbalu, and many more attractions such as Araku and Borra caves. Places near Vizag and other places in the district also have tourist attraction sites.
“Our main focus is to promote Brand Vizag globally and also to improve interconnectivity between tourist spots as well as focus on publicising local hotspots in association with various organisations,” said Neerabh Kumar Prasad.
The tourism department, in association with CII, Andhra Pradesh, launched Vizag Tourism Promotion Bureau (VTPB) to promote tourist spots by involving various groups. K. Sandeep Kumar of VTPB, said that they have begun designing some leaflets with new identity for promotion of tourist places in Vizag city and in Vizag Rural, apart from Buddhist circuits in the region.
The leaflets would be circulated in all hotels in Vizag and other places besides social networking to grab the tourists’ attention.
“Vizag has got a rare chance to promote itself as a brand during the IFR, which is a major event of the Indian Navy. The tourism department needs to look into various issues like improving facilities regarding accommodation and other entertainment at the sites, before the IFR, to promote Vizag as an ultimate tourist destination in the state and even at the global level,” said members of the CII, Vizag unit.
