Hyderabad: The IMD’s forecast of a deficient rainfall this year is appearing to hold true for Telangana. Senior officials from IMD maintain that the El-Nino effect may strengthen further in the second part of the Southwest Monsoon season.

“The Telangana region has received 19 per cent less than normal rains so far in the last two months. This was predicted in the beginning of the season. As per the forecast, the coming few days will witness light to moderate rains accompanied by thundershowers at isolated places,” said assistant meteorologist M. Narasimha Rao.

As per the IMD forecast, the first four days of August are expected to bring normal rainfall to northern parts of Telangana, whereas the rest of the week is expected to be at least 5 per cent less than normal.

This might further worsen as the El-Nino impact is more likely to be seen in the second part of the Monsoon season, IMD officials said.
