Hyderabad: The two-member team constituted by the National Green Tribunal has not submitted its report on the July 25 inspection of Hussainsagar.

Instead it requested NGT to grant them permission to study the dewatering a second time. The team will visit the city on Wednesday for inspection again.

The NGT held a hearing on Hussainsagar dewatering on July 31 at Chennai. No one from the TS government appeared before the tribunal at the hearing on July 31.

The hearing was attended by the committee and the petitioner. “While the TS government stated in court that they have been repairing sluices the fact is that they have dismantled the surplus weir of Hussainsagar,” the petitioner said.

Information obtained as per RTI reveals that Amberpet STP is 339 MLD at full capacity as on 28 July 2015 while information under RTI from HCIP, HMDA reveals that around 500 MLD is being diverted through the Kukatpally drain alone and another 170 MLD from the adjacent catchment area, which means there is illegal discharge of water.

The government submitted in courts that the ‘sluices were repaired’ and only ‘some water is being discharged’ and that ‘more than one and half meters depth of water have been released till May 13, 2015 and no one has died downstream of Hussainsagar till now,” explained the petitioner to the tribunal. The next hearing of NGT is scheduled for August 12.
