HyderabadHaving won five of their seven matches thus far in the second edition of the StarSports Pro Kabaddi League, the Telugu Titans look will to seal their semifinal spot in the second round of the tournament, which gets underway on Tuesday at the Gachibowli indoor stadium here.

The Titans are currently placed second and need only three wins to make the last-four stage of the league. The team will begin their home campaign against defending champions Jaipur Pink Panthers.

“We take on the Pink Panthers tomorrow and we would like to start the home leg on a winning note. We hope to win three out of the four games we are playing here and enhance our chances of making the semifinal stage. We expect the people of Hyderabad and sports lovers to come out and support our team,” team owner Srinivas Sreeramaneni said.

The Titans, who had adopted a rotating captain policy — Raj Guru and Rahul Chaudhary being the two captains — in the first round, have finally named Meraj Shaykh, the Iranian recruit, as the full-time captain of the team.

“We wanted Meraj to get along with the players and know their style of play first and then announce him as the captain of the team. We did not want to do anything in a hurry so we gave him ample amount of time,” Srinivas added.

Around 2,000 tickets priced at Rs 300 will be sold online. The franchise owners have decided to give away 1,000 complimentary passes to promote the sport and attract more kids towards kabaddi. Apart from the 1,000 passes an additional 300 tickets will be made available for free on a first-come-first-serve basis at the stadium’s gates on each match day.
