BENGALURU: Voters of Benniganahalli ward had decided to boycott the 2010 BBMP polls, alleging official apathy and lack of basic amenities, but after persistent requests by local leaders, voters turned up to exercise their franchise.

This time too voters are upset with the condition of their ward and the conduct of their representatives. Benniganahalli ward comes under C V Raman Nagar assembly constituency and has a BDA layout — Kasturinagar, defence localities and also houses Namma Metro terminal station at the Byappanahalli.

Though the ward was represented by former deputy mayor N. Dayanand, it has been suffering from the poor infrastructure. Drains filled with filth and debris, roads riddled with potholes and parks are poorly maintained in the locality.

Due to the poor maintenance and waste management the Sadanandanagar main road gets flooded during rainy season, making it impossible even for vehicles to move about, said N. Prahlad, a resident of Sadanandanagar. Though monsoon has set in, the BBMP has not accorded any priority to clear the drains to prevent overflowing.

The BBMP has displayed a flex at Sadanandanagar in Benniganahalli ward which reads, “Retaining walls of the storm water drains are in a dilapidated condition. Public are cautioned to walk or move about carefully.”  How can BBMP wash off its responsibility by just displaying a flex, asked Prahlad. Is displaying such a flex any solution for the problem? Action should come through. Voters of Benglauru, including Benniganahalli ward, bestowed faith in BJP and got them to power.

This kind of attitude towards taxpayers and honest citizens cannot be tolerated. The public representatives must make a difference on the field, after all they enjoyed power for five long years, he said.
