M K Stalin visits arrested students in Puzhal jail

Meanwhile, Congress, PMK, VCL and Left parties condemned the arrest of the students

ChennaiDMK treasurer M.K. Stalin and DMDK chief Vijayakanth on Tuesday visited 15 students of Pachaiyappa’s College lodged in Puzhal prison for ransacking a liquor shops on Monday.
 
“The students injured in the police lathicharge were not even treated for injuries sustained,” Stalin told reporters, while condemning the police action. He said that DMK wants the government to release the students as well as those who were arrested in peaceful protest should be released immediately and cases should be withdrawn. Stalin, accompanied by former Union minister T. R. Baalu and former MLA P. K. Sekar Babu, met the students at the prison.
 
Vijayakanth, who was accompanied by DMDK legislator Parthasarathy and party treasurer Ilangovan, said that the students’ protest seeking prohibition would not stop. In a statement, he also condemned the state government and police for making preventive arrest of his party cadres.
 
Meanwhile, Congress, PMK, VCL and Left parties condemned the arrest of the students. TNCC president EVKS. Elangovan demanded action against policemen who attacked students including a girl student and dragged them to their vehicle. The government should release all the students and immediately implement prohibition in the state, he said.
 
PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss demanded the immediate release of the students. He advised the student community not to indulge in violence demanding prohibition. He also said people should not climb on mobile towers as part of the protest.
