Plea to order judicial enquiry into the death of Sasi Perumal

Chennai: The Madras high court has ordered notice to the state government on a petition, which sought a direction to it to appoint a judicial enquiry committee headed by a sitting or a retired high court judge to enquire into the death of anti-liquor activist Sasi Perumal on July 31 near Marthandam in Kanyakumari district.
Justice M.M. Sundresh before whom the petition filed by S. Vivek, son of Sasi Perumal, came up for hearing, posted for August 13 further hearing of the case.
According to the petitioner, he came to know through visual media that his father died when he was agitating for total prohibition in Tamil Nadu at Unnamalaikadai, near Marthandam, Kanyakumari district on July 31. He came to understand that one Tasmac shop, which was situated near a school and temple was not closed even after 1,000 days. It was not closed even after the order of the Madurai Bench of the Madras HC.

He came to understand that Marthandam police had registered a case under section 174 Cr.P.C (suicide). His father was on cell phone tower for about six hours. Nobody knew what happened during the crucial six hours.
