Hyderabad: The Telangana treasury got a leg up with revenues earned through the sale of liquor. It has recorded huge revenue of Rs 2,750 crore in the first three months (April-June) of the current financial year 2015-16.
Liquor sales have gone up by nearly Rs 300 crore when compared with the same period last year. The Telangana government is likely to receive another Rs 1,300 crore from the Centre in two instalments towards Central Sales Tax arrears in August and September.
The TS government which has been facing financial constraints over two months after RBI diverted over Rs 1,100 crore from the former’s account to the I-T department directly towards APBCL, is now relieved with fresh receipts to the treasury.
TS liquor revenues have surpassed AP (Rs 2,470.92 crore) and Kerala (Rs 2,424.06 crore) during the same period, but lagged behind Karnataka (Rs 3,659 crore) and TN (Rs 5,206.83 crore). Liquor sales had fetched Rs 2,752.53 crore during April-June 2015, which is an increase of Rs 266.77 crore over the same period last year.
