New Delhi: In an attempt to take first mover advantage, Bharti Airtel on Thursday commercially launched 4G services in around 300 cities across India before Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Jio rolls out its services in coming months.
It has become first player to launch 4G telephony services across the country. Analysts are expecting a tough competition between Airtel and Reliance Jio in the 4G space.
Airtel, which is the largest telecom players in the country had been testing its 4G network in the last couple of months. Reliance Jio is preparing to offer 4G services starting in December. The cash-rich conglomerate Reliance Industries is expected to launch 4G services in a big way offering cheap devices and other bundled services.
“This is a very competitive market and it keeps us on our toes,” said Gopal Vittal, MD and CEO, Bharti Airtel.
It launched India’s first 4G network in Kolkata in April 2012. Airtel 4G will be available to customers across a range of smart devices including mobile phones, dongles, 4G hotspots and Wi-Fi dongles. Airtel customers can have 4G at 3G data prices with packs starting at Rs 25.
