The city celebrated its first Car Free Thursday on August 6, thanks to an awareness effort that ensure everyone knew about it. Volunteers were out on the roads on Wednesday morning, holding placards urging all to join the initiative. And their efforts did seem to pay off as on Thursday morning, many employees were seen taking the bus or carpooling to work. While some were spotted cycling, some decided to walk.

And it wasn’t just the Hitec City area — many bureaucrats were also seen joining the initiative. Syed Shawket Hussain Madani, Deputy Director, Information Technology & Communi-cations, Government of Telangana, took a bus from Charminar to the Secretariat.

Ramesh Loganathan, president of HYSEA (Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association), who was holding a placard that read ‘Thank you for taking the bus’ on Thursday morning says, “There were at least 2,000 to 3,000 less cars on the roads.”
