BENGALURU: Miscreants set ablaze an autorickshaw parked in front of a house at Teachers’ Colony in Banashankari police limits early Thursday. Autorickshaw owner Basavaraju has filed a complaint with Banashankari police.

In his complaint, Basavaraju, who is a treasurer of an autorickshaw drivers’ union, alleged that it could be the handiwork of those who were against his decision to contest the BBMP elections. Basavaraju is said to be contesting the BBMP elections on Communist party ticket from Ward 180.

However, the police said that a gas leak from the fuel tank of the autorickshaw could have triggered the fire. The incident took place around 3.15 am.

Meanwhile, members of the autorickshaw drivers’ union staged a protest in front of the Town Hall seeking immediate action against those who had set the autorickshaw ablaze. Banashankari police have registered a case. Further investigations are on.
