Army to decide on AOC way by August 10
Army officials said the state has not sent any proposal on developing alternate routes
Hyderabad: A solution to the night restrictions on AOC roads will be announced on Monday after discussing the issue with the Army authorities, defence minister, Manohar Parrikar said on Thursday after meeting Malkajgiri Residents Welfare Association members accompanied by local representatives and top Army officials from AOC, Hyderabad.
In the hour-long meet, Army officials told Mr Parrikar that security concerns had led to closing of roads. Residents spoke of the hardship caused to 13 lakh people.
“These roads were open to public for over 100 years and it is the main connectivity for 13 lakh people. Shutting this route will cause major hardships,” association members told the minister.
Army officials said the state has not sent any proposal on developing alternate routes. To this, Mr Parrikar asked the officials to hold talks with the municipal corporation on alternative routes.
The delegation led by Union labour minister Bandaru Dattatreya comprised MPs, legislators and leaders from the TRS, BJP and Telugu Desam apart from residents’ association members.
TRS special representative in New Delhi Dr S. Venugopala Chary submitted another memorandum to Mr Parrikar requesting him to speed up allotment of 60 acres of Bison Polo Ground in Secunderabad for the new Secretariat.
The state government had promised to provide an alternative site to the defence authorities in lieu of Bison Polo ground.
In another development, TRS MPs led by Lok Sabha floor leader A. P. Jitender Reddy, Deputy leader B. Vinod Kumar, Ms Kavita, B. B. Patil, B. Narasaiah Goud, Dr Venugopala Chary, TJAC, TNGOs and others met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and requested him to speed up pending implementation of AP Reorganisation Act in toto including division of public undertakings, government employees, High Court and other institutions.
Mr Dattatreya, Dr Venugopala Chary, Telugu Desam MP Malla Reddy, BJP MLC, N. Ramachander Rao, welfare association members and others called on the Defence Minister on the Cantonment issue.
The Defence Minister promised to take a decision by Monday over defence officials’ restrictions on movement of people and vehicular traffic after 10 pm and before 7 am.
The state delegation told the Defence Minister that those living around the Cantonment area were facing hardship due to imposition of restrictions by defence authorities on security grounds. “We brought to the notice of the Defence Minister the hardship faced by locals in the Cantonment area due to restrictions on movement of traffic.”
Dr Venugopala Chary submitted a memorandum seeking allotment of 60 acres of Bison Polo ground for Secretariat, Ramachander Rao told Deccan Chronicle from New Delhi.
Ms Kavita, who was part of the delegation to Union Home Minister, said they had requested the Home Minister to take steps to remove all the contentious issues in the AP Reorganisation Act including bifurcation of the High Court, distribution of assets, division of public undertakings and government employees and pending Kamalnathan committee decision.
“We brought to the notice of the Union Home Minister the injustice done to Telangana by the Kamalnathan Committee and sought his intervention,” Kavita said.
