CHENNAI: The DMK on Thursday announced a statewide tour covering all 234 constituencies by its treasurer M. K. Stalin from September 25 to galvanize public support for 2016 polls, shortly after it constituted a committee to prepare its manifesto for the next Assembly election poll due in April/May next.

Kicking off from Kanyakumari, the two-month long tour will culminate with a massive rally at Kancheepuram on November 11. Expected to be an all-out assault on the ruling AIADMK, the DMK treasurer, who will cover a portion of the tour on foot, would be distributing what he describes a “chargesheet” of the incumbent government.
If the four-page statement released by Anna Arivalayam  were something to go by, the DMK leader would go to town against the incumbent government.

Seen mainly as an attempt to galvanise public support and reach out to the electorate, more so when the party has been accused of largely distancing itself from the people during the last decade, one of the crucial features of the tour would be asking the people what kind of governance would they want from the DMK if it were voted back to power in 2016.

Announcing the tour at the party headquarters, party spokesperson T.K.S. Elangovan told mediapersons that Stalin would hold elaborate consultations with the people, assess the ground reality and subsequently meet party cadres in the two-months. Divided into three stages, Stalin will address town hall and roadside meetings besides conducting the outreach program “meet the people” he has tried in his Kolathur constituency, in the villages. Views elicited from the voters would be incorporated in the party manifesto being prepared by a committee for the 2016 Assembly polls.

Titled “namakku namey”, Stalin also plans to hand out the performance report of the previous DMK regime even while advising the people not to count on the ruling AIADMK that had not delivered on most areas.
