CHENNAIChief Minister J. Jayalalithaa on Thursday handed over orders of appointment on compassionate grounds to the family members of woodcutters killed in the Seshachalam forests  by Andhra Pradesh special task force in April. 
 
She also announced government job with compensation of Rs 7 lakh to the wife of Tasmac staffer, Selvam, who died after miscreants set ablaze a liquor outlet in Salem.
At the secretariat, Jayalalithaa gave away job orders to five kin of the total 20 persons gunned down in the Andhra Pradesh forests. The victims were from Tiruvannamalai and Krishnagiri districts and the kin of 20 victims were posted as cooking assistants, noon meal coordinators and anganwadi workers.
 
The state government had brought the bodies from Andhra Pradesh for cremation and now with the family members demanding compensation it had provided them jobs on compassionate grounds, an official release said. 
The state had already distributed Rs 3 lakh as compensation to the families of the killed woodcutters, the release added. 
 
In a statement, Ms Jayalalithaa conveyed her condolences to Selvam’s family. She said the police had been directed to take legal action against those who committed the barbaric act. Selvam’s benefits such as provident fund and perks will be disbursed immediately, she said.
