Doctors of Kozhikode Government Medical College (MCH) hold a protest march demanding appointments of doctors in MCH campus on Thursday.

KOZHIKODE: The MBBS students of Medical College Kozhikode staged a sit-in and took a protest march on the campus Thursday demanding the immediate appointment of professors and other staff.

The students alleged that the functioning of the institution had been affected after 13 professors were transferred. Senior professors now struggle to conduct classes as they have to attend patients first.

The immediate provocation was Thursday's transfer of five doctors to Manjeri Medical College where an agitation was continuing against staff crunch.

MCH Students’ Union chairman K. Jishad said they suspect an organised attempt to destabilise the public health and education system.

The remaining doctors had to attend about 5,000 patients while teaching medical and paramedical students.

“Transferring staff is not a solution but just a temporary solace for one MCH while creating a crisis for another,” he told DC.

However, the authorities said the institution had already demanded the immediate appointment of doctors. Even the attention of Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was brought to the issue.
