P K Abdu Rabb clueless on Rs 1000 crore extra load
The figure of Rs 1000 crore was disclosed by top government sources
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government on Thursday issued the order on new teachers package for regularisation of teachers including specialist teachers appointed between academic years 2010-11 and 2014-15 in private aided schools, entailing an annual outgo of Rs 700 crore to Rs 1000 crore.
The figure of Rs 1000 crore was disclosed by top government sources. However, Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb told DC that the total financial liability on the government would be known only at the time of implementation.
The actual number of teachers who would benefit out of the decision, would also be known only at the implementation stage, he added.
The decision to regularise teachers is being seen in various quarters as a move to appease a section of people.
Besides, it also entails a clever political strategy to woo a large section of teachers especially those affiliated to pro CPM Kerala School Teachers Association (KSTA).
As per the decision, only those teachers who become excess due to division fall in government schools would be redeployed in other Government schools.
The order specifically states that excess teachers from private aided schools would not be redeployed in vacancies arising in government schools.
The decision has been taken in the wake of the opposition from government school teachers. This clearly meant that the teachers who were found excess in private aided schools would be now appointed in vacancies arising in Sarva Siksha Abhayan and RMSA.
These teachers would also be posted against vacancies that will arise after headmasters in schools with more than 200 students are exempted from teaching assignments.
The new package also extends protection to teachers appointed to the posts arising out of resignation, death, retirement, promotion or transfer after 2011-12.
This means teachers appointed against these posts would be given salaries even in the case of division fall. The protected teachers will draw their salaries from their parent schools till they are redeployed.
