Tech student held for laptop theft

Hyderabad: SR Nagar police on Friday arrested a BTech graduate for his alleged involvement in theft of laptops from different private hostels. The accused, Uddipta Das, 25, was caught near Aditya Trade Centre, were he was trying to dispose off the stolen material. Cops also recovered 10 laptops worth Rs 2 lakh from him.
 
Cops said the accused, is a native of Assam. He completed BTech from a college in Bidar in Karnataka and he came to Hyderabad in search of job. He started living in a hostel in SR Nagar in April 2014. He is well-informed about private hostels in SR Nagar, Bapunagar, Yellareddyguda and Ameerpet.
 
Punjagutta ACP M. Venkateshwarlu, said, “He would enter the hostel as a newcomer and ‘check’ rooms. He would then flee with laptops left by residents.” The accused was sent to judicial remand.
