13 Federation Cup National Athletics Championships: Mohit, Stuti Singh fastest
Pushpa dominates javelin throw; Karthiga leaps to gold; Ankit big shot

Hyderabad: Mohit from Haryana and Stuti Singh from Uttar Pradesh won the 100 metres events in men’s and women’s categories respectively at the 13th Federation Cup National Junior Athletics Championships being held at city’s G.M.C. Balayogi Athletics Stadium, Gachibowli.
Mohit (10.67 seconds) got the best of the start and comfortably won the race ahead of Kerala’s Joseph Joy (10.78) and Uttar Pradesh’s Rahul Kumar (10.80). In the junior women’s 100 metres category Stuti Singh (10.67) outran Manvir Kaur (12.07) of Punjab and Shilbi (12.32) of Kerala.
The men’s 1500 metres race saw a close finish with West Bengal’s Shashi Bhushan Singh (3:51.16) just managing to cross the line ahead of Rahul (3:51.35). Dinesh Lathwal (3:54.59) from Haryana took the third place.
Sanjeevani Baburao (17:10.95) from Maharashtra showed the much needed determination and stamina as she cruised to win the women’s 5000 metres race. Neha (17:26.41) from Manipur and R. Jyothi (18:05.62) from Tamil Nadu filled the second and third positions.
In the men’s shot put event, Ankit Dhaiya of Delhi took the pole position with a throw of 18.16 metres followed by Haryana’s Naveen and Jaspal Singh — who threw 17.37 metres and 17.12 metres respectively.
The women’s long jump event saw G. Karthiga of Tamil Nadu emerging first with a leap of 5.92 metres. Nayana James of Goa came second with a jump of 5.74 metres followed by Swathi V.C. with a 5.55 metres effort.
Pushpa Jakhar of Haryana hurled the javelin to a strong 46.58 metres to emerge victor, way ahead of Damayanthi Murmu of Orissa, who got 39.89 metres and Rajna J of Kerala who got 39.80 metres.
