Telangana may raise age bar to 39 for jobs

Hyderabad: The Telangana government is actively considering a proposal to raise the maximum age limit for government job aspirants to appear for recruitment exams for uniformed jobs in the police, excise, fire, prisons and forest departments.

The government has recently raised the age limit by 10 years for non-uniform jobs from 34 years to 44 years triggering similar demands from students aiming for uniform jobs.

The cabinet sub-committee held a meeting in the Secretariat on Saturday and discussed raising the age limit by 5 years from 34 years to 39 years.

The committee is expected to submit a report to the government next week recommending age relaxation by 5 years.

However, a final decision on this issue will be taken by CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao soon. The TS government has planned a series of job notifications to fill posts in various departments.

The government has already cleared 25,000 vacancies and another 25,000 vacancies are expected to be cleared next month.

These recruitments will be conducted by TSPSC, Police Recru-itment Board among others. However, the governments in undivided Andhra Pradesh refused to give age relaxation for uniformed jobs on the ground that these staff require physical fitness and should be young to perform dut-ies effectively though they frequently raised upper age limit for non-uniform jobs.

But with the delay in conducting recruitment exams for the last five years due to political uncertainty over TS issues, several candidates became ineligible for these exams due to age-bar and the TS government wants to compensate such candidates in the new state.
