New Delhi: Mohammed Naved alias Usman Khan, the LeT militant captured by Indian forces in connection with the Udhampur terror attack is none other than a 'jhalla' (mad person) conductor from the Indian occupied part of Kashmir, prominent Pakistani anchor Hamid Mir reported on a Pakistani news channel, on Saturday.

It was Hamid Mir who, following the 26/11 attacks, traced Ajmal Kasab's father to Okara in Pakistan, a claim that the Pakistani authorities vehemently denied back then.

Mir, citing sources, said that the young man was a resident of a Ghat village located in Kulgam district of Kashmir near the Jhelum River, and that the second militant Noman, who was killed, is also a resident of Kashmir. Naved’s immediate family have fled the village, and nine of the fifteen people arrested in connection with helping the militant were his relatives, he added.

The claims come as the Pakistani side have denied that the captured militant was its national. “We have also seen media reports and I will not offer any comment on that issue. We expect the Indian authorities to share information with us on the claims that are being made in the media,” Pakistan Foreign Office spokesperson Syed Qazi Khalilullah said on the arrest of the terrorist in India. We have said many a times that making immediate accusations on Pakistan is not correct. These things should be based on facts. We expect that whenever Pakistan is being accused of something, it will be accompanied with correct evidence,” he had said.

The NIA took over investigations after the Centre issued notification asking the central probe agency to handle the probe and get evidences which could be presented to Pakistan. Naved has claimed that he hails from Faislabad area of Pakistan.

After undergoing training in two different modules with Lashker-e-Taiba terror group, Naved along with three others had entered into India through Baramulla in North Kashmir area by cutting the fencing.

During interrogation, he said that he had stayed at Tangmarg and Baba Reshi and shifted their base to Awantipura-Pulwama in South Kashmir where he remained inside a cave located on a hill side.

The group split into two and he along with Noman moved to Kulgam in South Kashmir from where they boarded a truck to Jammu on Tuesday morning and spent night at 'Tamatar morh' before carrying out attack on Wednesday.

A case under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, Arms Act and various sections of Indian Penal Code has been registered against Naved and his accomplice.
