DMDK for prohibition from October 2
It also sought revocation of suspension of six MLA for one year and rest for the full budget session

Chennai: DMDK on Sunday urged the state government to implement prohibition in a phased manner respecting the anti-liquor protest in the state. “Though enforcement of total prohibition was impractical, it could be done in a phased manner to set an example for other state. Chief Minister Jayalalithaa should make an announcement on August 15, marking Independence Day, reducing number of shops and sale hours.
Besides sale of liquor to those below the age of 21 years should be prohibited. It should be implemented from Gandhi Jayanthi,” the DMDK’s executive committee meeting chaired by its president Vijayakanth resolved. The resolution said AIADMK government should make this announcement respecting the sentiments of ongoing anti liquor protest and the death of Gandhian Sasiperumal who sought closure of Tasmac outlet in Marthandam on July 31.
It may be noted that DMDK had held a human chain protest seeking total prohibition on August 6. The executive adopted a total of 14 resolutions. the executive committee urged the state government to immediately convene the Assembly session to discuss the issues concerning people. It also sought revocation of suspension of six MLA for one year and rest for the full budget session.
DMDK also urged government to come out with a white paper on state finance as the debt touched Rs 2.11 lakh crore. Resolution seeking hike of sugar procurement price to Rs 3,500 per ton, termination of high cost solar power purchase agreement and deteriorating law and order situations were also passed.
