ChennaiAccusing the Congress of “doing a great disservice” to the nation by disrupting Parliament, Parliamentary affairs minister M. Venkaiah Naidu said the Congressmen should give up their anti-democratic stand and allow Parliament to pass the crucial bills for the benefit of the people.

Flaying the double standards of the Congress, which “while in position pushed India backward and when in Opposition didn’t want India to move forward,” the BJP senior claimed that the Congress was conducting itself in an “irrational” manner as it was envious of the increasing popularity of the government in the last one year under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dynamic rule.

The image and prestige of India has gone up internationally, investments are coming, economy is back on rails, lots of development and welfare initiatives are being launched. International rating agencies say India is poised for more growth. If it goes with same tempo, India will surpass China in growth in coming two years. Is heartening thing to happen.

“But unfortunately, our opponents are fed up, perturbed and disappointed over the growing popularity of Sri Narendra Modi and his development initiatives. They want to bring down the image of the Prime Minister. This will not happen,” Mr Venkaiah told reporters here on Sunday.

He said, “Whatever you want, say it in Parliament. Respect the mandate of the people. Don’t obstruct the growth. I only hope that Monday will not become Sunday tomorrow.”

The Opposition was doing a great disservice to the nation if they did not allow the Parliamentary systems to succeed. “You are hurting the country…,” he added.
