Mumbai: Sundar Pichai has been appointed as the new CEO of restructured Google and has joined the gradually growing list of Indian-origin CEOs. Making it to the top wasn’t a cakewalk for Sundar Pichai, but in fact a great endorsement of India's standing in the global technology industry.

Sundar Pichai completed his schooling in Chennai and is believed to be a winner in every competition in his early days. The humble upbringing taught him to do his best with whatever little he had. A report by Bloomberg stated that he slept on the floor and his family couldn’t afford a TV set or a car. Further, he also studied Metallurgical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur.

You can call him a ‘multi-tasker’, as he ensured the smooth functioning of Google's web browser, Chrome and Android mobile operating system. Colleagues and friends describe Sundar Pichai as a soft-spoken individual. He successfully runs Google's I/O annual developer event - . "Sundar has been saying the things I would have said for quite some time now, and I've been tremendously enjoying our work together," said Larry Page, chief executive of Google Alphabet.

Page lauded Pichai for his work at the company and said he is ‘very fortunate’ to have someone as ‘talented’ as Pichai to head the new Google. "This new structure will allow us to keep tremendous focus on the extraordinary opportunities we have inside of Google. A key part of this is Sundar Pichai," added Larry Page.

Sundar Pichai will be responsible to boost the search results of Google, advertising, maps and YouTube in the next few months.
