Chennai: A group of like-minded political parties, led by MDMK general secretary Vaiko, will observe a fast in Chennai and Tiruvannamalai demanding a CBI probe into the killing of 20 woodcutters from Tamil Nadu by the Andhra Pradesh STF personnel at Seshachalam forests, near Tirupati, in April this year.
A resolution to this effect was adopted at a meeting held under the banner of ‘Desiya Makkal Koottamaippu’ at MDMK headquarters, Thaayagam, here.
Besides Vaiko, VCK president Thol. Thirumavalavan, CPI (M) state secretary G. Ramakrishnan, CPI state secretary S. Mutharasan and Manithaneya Makkal Katchi leader M.H. Jawahirullah, MLA, and others took part in the meeting.
The meeting accused the Andhra Pradesh government of trying to cover up the case as encounter and wanted the Tamil Nadu Government to implead itself in the case.
Stating that repeated demands for a CBI probe has not yielded the desired results, it was today decided to observe a fast on August 26 at Chennai and September 8 at Tiruvannamalai to press this demand.
The resolution said only a CBI probe would bring out the entire truth about the encounter to light and justice rendered to the victims’ families.
