Hyderabad: Traffic rules and discipline would make their way into the school curriculum in the state next year. Telangana state government officials said they were positive about incorporating lessons on traffic rules in the curriculum but only from the next academic year.
Government officials from different departments including transport, traffic police and school education met on Tuesday to discuss measures to improve road safety in the state.
Transport and police officials asked if lessons on traffic discipline and rules could be made a part of the school curriculum.
“It is a fact that more people die in road accidents than from diseases or even from crimes like murder. We are very positive about including traffic lessons in the school curriculum,” a senior Telangana education ministry official said.
“This year obviously it is not possible because the academic session has already started. We have to hold discussions with the State Council of Education Research and Training and see what should be included,” the official added.
