Ancient Gali Gopuram to be demolished

The endowments department said that the tower was weakening

GUNTUR: The ancient Gali Gopuram of the Amaralingeswara temple at Amaravati will be demolished to make way its replacement. The endowments department said that the tower was weakening, and has proposed constructing a new tower costing Rs 1.52 crore and is to be completed by the Krishna Pushkaralu in August 2016. 
 
The Amaralingeswara temple was renovated in 1796 by the local king Raja Vasidreddy Venkatdri Naidu who shifted his capital to  Amaravati. Amaralingeswara temple executive officer N. Srinivas Reddy said the entrance had been closed to dismantle tower.
