Bengaluru: Man stabs wife, then tries to end his life
They hail from Kolkata and had come to the city few years ago
BENGALURU: A family dispute between couple turned ugly, after a 46-year-old husband allegedly stabbed his wife and later attempted to commit suicide by stabbing himself in Jeevan Bhima Nagar police station limits on Thursday noon. The couple was immediately shifted to Manipal hospital and are said to be critical.
Arbindo Chakravorty, an employee of a private firm in Marathalli and a resident of Kodihalli had married Smitha Das, 37, around ten years ago. They hail from Kolkata and had come to the city few years ago. They have an eight-year-old daughter.
Around 12.30 pm, the duo got into a heated argument over a family dispute, following which an enraged Arbindo grabbed a kitchen knife and attacked Smitha, who collapsed on the floor after sustaining injuries on abdomen and head. Shocked at what he had done, Arbindo then stabbed himself in the abdomen.
The incident came to light after neighbours heard the commotion and rushed to their house. They found the couple lying in a pool of blood and immediately shifted them to Manipal hospital. Later the police were alerted, who rushed to the hospital.
“The police are yet to take the statement of the couple to ascertain the exact cause behind the incident. Both have been admitted to ICU and are said to be critical,” said an investigating officer. Preliminary investigation revealed that the couple reportedly used to have frequent fights over various domestic issues. Jeevan Bhima Nagar police have registered a case and begun investigation.
