Ousted professor Ramu Manivannan ready to fight all charges

He will not back down from 'voicing student concerns'

ChennaiStating that he will not back down from “voicing student concerns”, Prof Ramu Manivannan on Thursday said he was ready to fight against all charges made against him by Madras University.
 
A week after he was removed as the HoD of the political science department, the professor spoke to the media on Thursday. He was supported by Justice K. Chandra, V. Arasu, former Syndicate Member of Madras University among many others, including students.
 
“I’m tired of the constant threats and harassment, I’m not even able to work peacefully and it is definitely affecting my students,” Manivannan said adding that he would not back down from voicing the problems of his students.
 
“At the end of the day I’m a teacher and if the students are not being provided the facilities that they deserve then I’m going to question the authorities, I have those rights.”
Justice K. Chandru in his supporting statement said the university was not a place that the police should ever have to enter. 
 
“These students are conducting peaceful protests to show solidarity with their teacher and to allow the police to harass these students is a matter of shame for the university.”
At present, 27 charges have been filed against the professor.
