Tamil Nadu Assembly to begin on August 24
It is likely to last for about two weeks

Chennai: Tamil Nadu Assembly session will begin on August 24, said an official communiqué from Assembly secretary A. M. P. Jamaludeen. The House will meet at 10 am on August 24 and Assembly speaker P. Dhanapal will convene the business advisory committee to decide the schedule of ensuing session, the note said.
The session is likely to have celebrations from the ruling party as Jayalalithaa returns to the Assembly as Chief Minister for the fifth time after her acquittal in the assets case in May. The DMK and other Opposition MLAs are gearing up to rake up liquor prohibition.
During the session, demands for grants to government departments are to be taken up and is likely to last for about two weeks. The last session was held between March 25 and April 1, when O. Panneerselvam was the Chief Minister.
OPS elevated as leader of House:
The state government on Thursday elevated finance minister O. Panneerselvam as the leader of Tamil Nadu legislative Assembly. The state in its gazette on Wednesday notified Panneerselvam’s elevation, a post which he had held earlier held. When Panneerselvam assumed the chair of Chief Minister, the post was handed over to senior minister Natham R. Viswanathan.
