Bengaluru: Sleuths of the Narcotics Wing of Central Crime Branch (CCB) raided a plush apartment in Jayanagar on Bannerghata Road and arrested a 61-year-old NRI for sexually exploiting a Nepal-based woman promising her a job abroad.

Based on a tipoff, the sleuths raided the apartment, rescued the victim and arrested Vinod Malhotra, who is a businessman from Doha. He runs salon chains in India, Dubai and Doha, the police said.
Preliminary enquiries revealed that Mehta owns several high-end flats in Koramangala, Yelahanka, HSR Layout and Marathahalli and has rented them out. He visited Bengaluru once every three months and stayed at his flat in Hulimavu.

The police said Mehta got women from various places and stayed with them at his flat. On August 11, he brought the victim from Goa, promising her a job in a beauty parlour in Doha and sexually exploited her. He had kept the victim locked at the flat and did not allow her to contact her family members, the police said.

The police sent the woman to a state-run rescue home, while arresting the accused under various sections of the IPC, including outraging the modesty of a woman, wrongful confinement and slavery.
The police recovered two mobile phones from the accused and are investigating to ascertain whether he was involved in similar offences earlier.
