62-year-old delivers girl child in Ramanathapuram district
For the past 35 years they have been married without a child

Chennai: R. Karuppayi, a 62-year-old woman of Salem, has given birth to a girl child through artificial insemination. Karuppayi hails from Muthu Kolathur in Ramanathapuram district. Her husband is a farmer. For the past 35 years they have been married without a child. They approached a private hospital in Salem for artificial insemination.
N.Muthukumar who was in charge of the delivery said, “Though she was made pregnant through artificial insemination, due to her old age normal delivery was not possible. So she had a Cesarean delivery. The child weighs 2.4 kg.” Both the child and mother are in good health.
