VelloreOfficials of the Vellore judicial magistrate court here on Friday seized a van belonging to the DIPR section, on a court order issued in favour of 14 persons of  Gudiyattam taluk.

They had sought the court's remedy to get compensation to make good for a vast difference in the market value and the amount paid by the government while acquiring lands from them.

According to court sources, the government had acquired two acres of land in Thazhathur village, near Gudiyattam, which was donated to them in the year 1995. Only Rs 2 lakh was given to the 14 persons when the acquisition was made. Hence all the 14 persons approached the Gudiyattam sub-court seeking to compensate them with the right price. The court ordered to pay them an additional sum of Rs 23,12,152 by the government. But, they did not receive the extra amount fixed by the court.

Hence, all the 14 went on appeal in the Vellore judicial magistrate court, which upheld the Gudiyattam courts Order. In spite of several reminders to the government officials, the 14 were not compensated, it was learnt.

Hence, the Vellore Court in their final order said if the money was not paid, then the court officials could confiscate or seize the vehicles of' the concerned departments.  Court officials   were able to seize only one van, as other vehicles were in use by the officials at that time.
