Hyderabad: The Telangana government has found defence authorities in “unauthorised” possession of 657.16 acres of government land in city. The government has now mooted a joint survey by revenue officials of Telangana government and defence officials to come to a decision on the extent of land in possession of defence authorities.

While reconciliation of lands allotted to defence authorities right from Nizam rule, merger of Hyderabad State with Indian Union, post independence, merger of Telangana region with Andhra is still on, the government has tentatively laid claim over these lands out of the total 3,010.39 acres.

Chief secretary Dr Rajiv Sharma told this newspaper that revenue officials had, under the supervision of Hyderabad district collector and other senior officials, conducted preliminary survey and found that defence authorities were in possession of 657.16 lakh acres “unauthorisedly”.

“Our revenue records are very clear. We find over 600 acres in unauthorised possession of defence authorities as on date. If the lands are allotted there will be documents. If there are no documents, it will be construed as government land. Revenue and defence officials are undertaking reconciliation of all lands in possession of defence authorised besides illegal occupation by others,” Dr Sharma said.
