KOZHIKODE: The yesteryear motoring marvels will hit the city roads on the 69th Independence Day, with over 100 cars, bikes and scooters parading before vintage enthusiasts.
The Vintagers Club of Kozhikode, a Facebook forum, will host the grand ‘Freedom Rally,’ which is also a tribute to the late A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.
Motor cycles like Norton, Triumph, Jawa, Royal Enfield, Rajdoot, Yezdi Roadking; scooters like Italian Lambretta, Lamby, Italian Vespa, Priya, Vijay Super and Bajaj Chetak and vintage cars like Plymouth, Morris Minor, Morris 8, Willys Station Wagon, Willys Jeep, Japan Maruti, Ambassador Landmaster and Ambassador Mark 1 and 2 are among the vehicles to be displayed.
Mr Sarath Kumar, a member of Vintagers Club, said, “we have over 100 active members in our club who are vintage enthusiasts. The majority of them own over 30 cars and bikes, of which a good number are in running condition,” he said.
The Facebook forum was formed three years ago and since then the club has been organizing exhibitions and rallies of vintage vehicles during the national festivals. The forum plans to expand its collections to other districts and has urged the enthusiasts to join it.
