Hyderabad: The ‘two bin’ policy to collect dry and wet garbage from every household in Greater Hyderabad will be implemented in two months as the government has ordered to purchase 44 lakh bins (Green and Red). Green is for bio-degradables and red for the non-recyclable waste.
Along with the ‘two bin’ policy, the government has also ordered 2,500 tippers (Auto Trolleys) to clear garbage. Each trolley will be given to interested persons (with driving licence) under the driver-cum-owner programme of GHMC.
The driver will be allotted 600-800 houses and will also be given the authority to collect garbage fee from houses every month (GHMC yet to decide on the garbage fee). These trolleys can accommodate two cubic meters of garbage and also have a separator for dividing the waste.
After collection, the trolleys will be covered so that waste does not slip out. The CM had asked the GHMC to get the 2,500 auto tippers made in green colour. Rs 100 crore has been allotted for this (each vehicle cost Rs 3.88 lakh).
The GHMC has also invited tenders for the purchase of 1,500 tricycles to clear garbage from areas where auto trolleys cannot go and 18 sweeping machines. The GHMC will also procure new bulk garbage collecting vehicles.
