2 kids to take shot at football dream

Selected children will get chance to play with Portuguese clubs

KANNUR: Children from Thalassery will now get a chance to play in Dubai and Portugal and to get trained under eminent football coaches from across the globe. The Thalassery Cricketers, a collective of expats from Thalassery and nearby areas based in Dubai, is providing the opportunity for the young football talents to experience Asian and European football.

In order to develop a sports culture among the expat youth, the Thalassery Cricketers has launched a number of football projects and tournaments.

As part of nurturing talent, the Dubai-based kids team had come to Thalassery and played against the Rovers–SEPT football team in Thalassery on Sunday.

The Dubai team won the match 2-1. Now, the 12-member SEPT team will fly to Dubai to participate in a tourney along with teams from other Middle East countries.

Two members from the SEPT team will be selected from this tourney based on their performance and will get an opportunity to join the Thalassery Cricketers’ team touring Portugal later.

The selected kids will also participate in a one-week training programme in Portugal with a Portuguese Football Academy and also get a chance to play with Portuguese clubs.

The selection will be conducted by eminent coaches including Shanavaz C.K.P, who is the logistics manager for the Under-17 FIFA World Cup Football Championships to be held at India.
