KOZHIKODE: The UGC’s national assessment and accreditation committee  would visit Kannur University in October. This is the first time that Kannur University has applied for the NAAC accreditation since it came into being  in 1996.

Vice chancellor Dr M.K. Abdul Khader said  he was  also looking into the possibilities of  getting accreditation for the Calicut University  as he is now in-charge of the university.

“Our academic performance and infrastructure facilities for courses are good.  We are also starting some new and unique courses like MSc Wood Sciences which is linked with industry and getting good response,” he said.

The fact that it is a decentralised university with multi-campuses across three districts would be an advantage  during the Naac team visit.

Some of the major projects at the Kannur University  would be the Gundert library, which would be turned into the biggest library in South India,  and the Aquatic Bio-Diversity Park.

The MSc Wood Sciences course  is the only one in South India. “We are working hard to get the best results from the Naac team’s visit,” added registrar Dr Balachandran Keezhoth.
