New York: A 21-year-old engineering student's selfie stunt on a beam of the iconic Brooklyn bridge has landed him in jail after the photo went viral on social media raising security concerns before the July 4 holiday.
David Karnauch, a student at the University of Tennessee, who took a selfie of himself on a beam of the bridge was arrested for the stunt yesterday, authorities said. Karnauch climbed onto a beam of the iconic bridge and snapped a selfie of himself just prior to the American Independence Day. He posted the image to his Instagram and it quickly went viral, raising security concerns before the busy holiday weekend, The New York Post reported.
"You could just get on a beam and it actually had handrails on the left and right side, and I just walked across the bridge and turned around to take a picture," he had said
after the image went viral.
Karnauch is due in court August 31. He will have to wait for his court date in a Chattanooga jail because he is being held without bond, police said.
