KOZHIKODE: The police on Monday made a  huge haul of  explosives from a vehicle at Mukkam and  arrested two persons.

The  seized items included  450 kg of gun powder, 400 gelatin sticks,   1,500 detonators and a seven-metre-long electric cable.

The arrested  were identified as  Haris and Mehaboob  of Mukkam. During interrogation, the duo  said  that the explosives were meant for a quarry. But the police found that there was no such quarry in the area  mentioned by the duo.

Further investigations were  on to check from where the explosives were sourced and for whom they were  meant.

The explosives, seized during a check near  Abhilash junction,  were similar to those used in quarries.

The police  do not suspect any extremist link  to the incident.   The  Mukkam police had stepped up the  night patrol following a major burglary  some days ago
