Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation gets R&B’s roads
The GHMC has arranged for emergency vehicles to repair the potholes
Hyderabad: The road and buildings (R&B) department has handed over roads in the Hyderabad circle to the GHMC for maintenance, after a state government order to transfer all the roads totalling more than 300 km.
However, repairs of these surrendered roads are yet to be carried out. The major connector from the PVNR Expressway till HICC, passing through Sarojini Devi Hospital, belongs to the roads and buildings department.
GHMC authorities said, “The GHMC will be setting up a separate Main Road Circle (MRC) for day-to-day maintenance of about 1,000 km of main arterial roads under the corporation limits. The state government had issued orders entrusting maintenance of all roads under the roads and building department falling in Greater Hyderabad to the GHMC.”
He added, “The MRC will be supervised of either by a GHMC special officer or a nodal officer. The day-to-day monitoring of main road circle will be looked after by a superintendent engineer, four executive engineers and assistant engineers. Staff from other wings of GHMC like town planning, urban biodiversity, street lighting, health and sanitation, with enforcement cell, will be attached to the new circle.”
The official said the MRC’s main task will be road maintenance, re-carpeting, repairs, pothole filling and to take remedial measures whenever complaints are received. Temporarily, the GHMC has arranged for emergency vehicles to repair the potholes.
